I wanted to take time this morning to recognize what I consider to be one of the most vitriolic businesses that has come into existence. Spherion, how art thou? What can I say about a company that has managed to so successfully commoditize labor that it has basically re-introduced slavery?
Why do I call them out? In a few words, they fucking woke me up. So here’s my Spherion experience in a nutshell: they got me a job testing mashed potatoes 84 hours a week, I worked for 3 months, then laid off.
That was december, apparently product demand has once again spiked, and they need me again, as they call me daily like a needy little girl. This is my open letter to Spherion, where I would like to impersonally say, fuck you. Now let’s add some color to this picture.
They call you daily with an automated message that doesn’t start until you say hello. That was fine. They have 2nd shift openings, great.
Did I mention they have eliminated the term ‘3rd shift’, and now prefer to do 2 12 hour shifts of wage slaves? What a benevolent company.
I had all this rage under wraps, until yesterday, when they changed their automated message to begin with, ‘it’s your lucky day’. The most untrue statement ever read by a computer automated voice. These pricks are just laughing at the unemployed now, it’s…..
Exploitive, explitive, infuriating, incendiary, offensive, crippling, saddening, punishing, It’s a broken-ankle frown sandwich. I wish this blog would take me out of their system, but I’ll have to hang up on them tomorrow too. Hope your day is luckier than mine.
